Our New Read Aloud
We are currently reading Mr. Popper's Penquins in class. This classic book that tells such a simple tale was written in 1938 and has been a favorite among all my kindergarten classes.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Today was a fun day in our class- we had lots of different activities celebrating the day. We also had a visitor during the night who left green footprints, a pot of gold, and a little bit of a mess. Word traveled fast and everyone was visiting our room to see what a mess "Lucky" had made.

Practicing our Reading
First grade is right around the corner and we've been practicing reading independently. The classroom is quiet and happy as everyone reads with just a murmur of voices and the occasional giggle. Even Mrs. Rose has had time to read a few pages of some of her favorite children's books. Please continue to encourage your child to read quietly to themselves or you each day.

Trees are Living Things
Today during guided reading we read two different books about trees and what are living things. We also watched the book "Once There Was a Tree" and learned about how scientists study trees to learn information about our Earth.
Artist in Residence
This week our school was very excited to have Helena Navarro as our school artist in residence. Although kindergarten students do not attend art class, it was very exciting to see the artwork from the other grade levels in the hallway. For more information on Helena Navarro, please click here.

Carnival of the Animals
Today in music class we watched a puppet show of the Carnival of Animals which featured music composed by Camille Saint-Saens. This music is fondly known as "classical music for kids". The kiddos loved hearing music and seeing the animals that it represented.
