Ice Cream Social

Today we had an ice cream social with all the teachers and support staff that have helped our class this year. It was so much fun and the kiddos were so well behaved. I tried to snap a few pictures, but things got a little hectic so Mrs. Hardesty took a few which was great because I was in the pictures and I was wearing my fun black/yellow party dress. After blogging for so long, I realized I have no pictures of me because I'm always taking the pictures. Thank you teachers for coming to our social- the kiddos were very excited to share our ice cream. When Mr. K walked in all the kiddos cheered making him feel like a rock star. Thank you parents for all the ice cream supplies:)

Updates

Hi everyone. As many of my students and parents know I was out sick most of last week and I wasn't able to update my blog. We did have some exciting events last week- Friday was the (almost) 100th day of school. We actually had a snow day on Thursday so Friday was suppose to be the 100th day, but technically it was the 99th day. But we pretended it was the 100th anyway because the kiddos came into class on Friday morning excited from the snow day and ready to celebrate the 100th day. I just didn't have the heart to tell them they had to wait until Monday and none of the kiddos realized that it wasn't technically the 100th day. Today we are celebrating Valentine's Day. We also donated over 120 cans to the local food pantry which we collected to celebrate the 100th day. I think I am basically caught up on emails, but if you emailed me last week and I haven't responded please email me again. Thanks!

Snow!

For all my loyal followers living in other areas (a little shout-out to all those following our blog in Hawaii!) yesterday we had a snow day and today we had a 2 our delay. It is pretty unusual to receive snow in Virginia Beach and even more so in December. Thanks again for following us and keeping track of all of our activities.

Virginia Beach Education Foundation

Wednesday night was the celebration of all the grant receipents at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach. The food was prepared and served by the culinary students from the Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center. The food was YUMMY and I was very excited to take pictures of the food. Jody Carroll, our computer resource teacher, Susan Hardesty, our librarian, Leslie Law, our gifted resource teacher, and Mrs. Capwell, our principal, and Mrs. Williamston, our assistant principal, and Amber Greene, our kindergarten assistant, also attended.

Who's a Turkey?

This is a picture of Mrs. Capwell dressed as a turkey from last year. Each year our SCA sponsors the "turkey teacher" canned food drive. Teachers volunteer themselves to have a box in the cafeteria to collect donated canned food. The teacher with the most cans of food in there box will have to wear the famous turkey costume! Last year, Mrs. Capwell won the canned food drive and had to wear the costume. Guess what... this year I volunteered to be in the contest for "turkey teacher"(yikes!). Students can bring in cans from November 15th-November 19th to vote for the "turkey teacher". Our kindergarten friends are very excited and keep teasing me about how they can't wait to see me in the turkey costume... stay tuned to see who wins!

Hi Parents,

I will be absent on Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday next week. I have to have a minor procedure done on my leg. Please email my wonderful assistant Mrs. Greene if you have any questions or concerns after Friday afternoon (I will be available via email through Friday afternoon). As always, please call the office at 648-2440 for any last minute transportation changes. Thanks!

Birthday Wishes!

Usually I try to leave personal information off of my blog, but today is my 31st birthday and my students were so excited!  I had many homemade cards from my kiddos plus lots of birthday hugs.  It was an exciting day and we even had a little time for short dance party to get out our wiggles!  Many thanks to my wonderful room mothers and my wonderful assistants- Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Gabriel for making this day so much fun!

Both Mrs. Gabriel and I received service awards for five years of service and dedication to Virginia Beach Public Schools.  I was completely surprised- time flies when you are having fun!
